- When I use the Alexa App on my Galaxy Note 5, under music & books, then music, every music app/option states 'App Support Unavailable.' I have unintsalled and reinstalled. I have signed out and signed in. I have rebooted. When I ask Alexa Echo to play xxx, it works. If I go to the Alexa app, I am unable to go in the music apps physically.
- Spotify Connect is a bit more convenient vs. AirPlay, as Spotify Connect streams to my Fire TV device continue to play, even if the iPhone I've used to control Spotify leaves the Bluetooth range that AirPlay would require to function. Beyond that the Spotify App on Fire TV doesn't offer much functionality.
So you just unwrapped an AmazonAlexa, Echo, or EchoDot—maybe someone who really gets you gifted one, or perhaps the holidays inspired you to treat yo’ self. Don’t start the new year with the smart speaker still sitting in its box. Setting it up to play classic, pop, and everything else is a done deal in three steps.
The app will search for the available Amazon Echo device. Tap on the three-dot icon next to the speaker select Connect to this Device; Your device will now get connected; Set Spotify as the Default Music Library. For this, you need to first link up your Spotify account with Amazon Echo. Your Spotify account is now linked to your Amazon account; you can ask your Amazon speakers to play music, or listen on your Amazon Fire TV, and it will search for and play that music from Spotify. You may need to wait up to 10 minutes for all features to become available to your Amazon devices.
What you’ll need: your new device, the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet, and your Spotify login info. Here’s how to connect Amazon Alexa to Spotify:
- First, download the Amazon Alexa app from the Google Play or App store, and follow the prompts to set up your new Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
- Once connected, go to “Settings,” select “Music,” click “Link New Service,” and then tap “Spotify” to input your Spotify username and password.
- Select “Default Services” to set Spotify as your default music service—et voilà.
Bonus hack: Once Alexa is up and running, you can even listen to another user’s Spotify account. Just ask Alexa to “Spotify Connect,” and the device will search for another one on the same Wi-Fi network. Stealing your holiday houseguests’ excellent playlists is encouraged.
